Styling In The Kitchen
Hello, hello! Today, I'm coming to you from my kitchen where I am striving to be in style even though there is no one around to see...but me! How do you feel about dressing stylishly and putting makeup and jewelry on when you are "home alone?" I'm of the opinion that it is nice to look stylish even when I'm doing chores in the kitchen. Since retirement, I have worked on "keeping myself up" during the day and not staying in my bathrobe all day. Now, there's nothing wrong with having a "jammy day" (or even several) but I seem to feel better about myself when I take the time to fix myself up a bit during the day. I'm not talking heels and pearls here...just stylish casual clothes that are comfortable. So today, I decided to leave on the casual, comfortable attire that I wore out earlier for a noonday lunch with friends.
This blue sweater is one of my favorites and I paired it with a tan faux turtleneck and my favorite skinny jeans. The butterfly necklace was a retirement gift from my colleagues. I'll work on a close-up in a future post so you can see the lovely detail.
My friends commented on my cute new tennis shoes when we were together earlier. These shoes remind me of the popular "Chucks" that are so in vogue right now. This style is a bit edgy and retro from the 80's.
These are not Chucks, but are a brand I found recently at Walmart for only $5.87! They have lots of colors and designs available. Check it out, ladies! And, I find them comfortable!
Why not look stylish in the kitchen? Why not put on jewelry and/or makeup to wear just for you? For me, looking put together for myself is a mood booster and helps me to feel ready for whatever chores and people come my way.
How about you? Do you like to look stylish even when no one is around to see you....except you? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hi Debbie! I absolutely "fix up" even when no one is around to see. I have to do it 5 days a week like it or not for work, so on Saturday and then Sunday, fixing my hair and putting on makeup is the first thing I do. Okay, after I make coffee. But seriously, I can't function during the day if I don't fix myself up. I do give my hair a break on weekends and don't wash it, but that's about it. You never know when you have to run out for something or if someone comes to the door. I can't even go out to cut the grass without makeup, so I'm definitely in the 'must have makeup on' group! I think you look very cute and polished in your casual things! Love those shoes! Yesterday as I was dashing through Walmart I saw some shoes and kept looking back and looking back, because I don't normally look at their shoes but I was going by and I saw these casual slip-ons with some frayed edges (purposely!)that I should have bought. Maybe I'll have to go back. I'm always looking for shoes to wear when I'm home being casual and these were very cute.
Good for you dressing up for you! I think it's important and makes us feel more confident!
Hooray! I'm glad someone else thinks like I do about this!! Now go back to Walmart and get those shoes! I was thinking of adding another pair with a different design/color myself.
I try to still get dressed when I'm home alone, Debbie! It makes me feel good, and when I feel good I tend to be more productive!!
Love these tennies---they add so much fun to any outfit!

Although I don't always follow your lead when I know I'll be home all day, I must say that I do feel better when I'm out of my robe and into my comfortable, casual "around the house" clothes. Even adding a only a little make-up--a hint of mascara and some lip gloss--seems to make me feel more productive and energetic. I have thought before about why this occurs, and I haven't come to any conclusions. Oh, well. Here's to cute and comfy shoes!!
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style linkup party.
Those shoes are so cute! I def struggle with staying in house clothes all day working from home!
